Café Wren’s solar
water heating system was installed by Legacy
Solar of Frederic, WI. The panels provide at least 65% of the
café’s hot water needs. Each year the solar heating system will
produce 24 Million BTU’s of energy. This energy will save 7,000
kWh of electricity that would normally have been used by the electric
water heater thereby preventing over 12,000 pounds of pollutants from
entering the atmosphere every year.
In addition to
implementing solar power, the café features other “living green”
practices such as purchasing food from local farmers, selling gifts from
local artists, serving fair-trade coffee & espresso, composting
kitchen scraps, using biodegradable cups & sleeves, recycling, using
efficient compact fluorescent lighting, etc.
